  Whats this life for?
The Question:

“What’s This Life For?”

John 17:3 – This is eternal life that they might know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you sent.

Eternal means – forever. Jesus is saying

“This is what Life is about both at this very point – NOW, and this is what Life will be about FOREVER.”

In essence Jesus is saying “This is the very meaning of life!”

“What is this life for then?”

The Answer:

“God Gave Us Our Life That We Might
Know Him!”

The word Know here in the Greek language in which this verse in the Bible was originally written means to Intimately Experience.

To know God Intimately through a personal relationship with him is the primary reason he gave you life, and the key to experiencing a full and eternal life.

Jesus called this “Abundant life!”(John 10:10). In other words, this is how you can live life to the full!

Q: What Stops Us From Knowing God, And Having Such An Abundant & Full Life As He Intended Us To?

A: Sin: Sin means to Fall Short Of God.

Romans 3:23 – all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Every person has sinned & failed to live by God’s perfect standard. The 10 Commandments prove this to be true. How many have you kept? No one can keep them all. The purpose of the 10 Commandments is to prove our sin. The greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. If we are all honest – we will admit we have all at least broken this first and greatest commandment.

We can not deal with the sin that separates us from knowing God & the life he intended us to enjoy, unless we realize that we have a Sin problem.

Q: So What’s The Problem?

A: Separation From God:Our Sin drives a wedge between us and God – preventing us from knowing him as he intended us to. As a result we are separated from his love, and the eternal life he made us to enjoy.

Isaiah 59:2 – your guilt has separated you from your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you.

This separation is what the Bible teaches as “Spiritual death”. Spiritual death is a natural consequence of our failure to live by God’s perfect standard. James 1:15 – Sin, when it is finished brings forth death (separation)

Q: What Spiritual Death Feels Like?

A:Being separated from a relationship with God leaves us with a deep sense & awareness that something is not right…

… we have a deep sense that something is missing, that we are incomplete, that there is an empty space, a spiritual hole within us. We try to ignore it, or we attempt to fill this emptiness through our own efforts in many different ways: Pleasure, work, relationships, education, therapy, addiction, religion, sports, moral living, but nothing actually works – the emptiness remains. It remains because our sin has left us with a God shaped hole that can only be filled by God. Nothing else can fill this spiritual emptiness.

So What? If we never deal with our sin, we can never know God and the life he intended for us to enjoy. If we die this way separation from God and his life becomes permanent.

“They will be … forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power – 2Thessalonians 1:9 (NLT)”

In one word we will experience an eternal Hell separated for the love and life that is God.

This is not God’s will for you.

Q: How Can God Help Us Deal With Out Sin?

A: 1Peter 3:18

1) “Christ suffered once for sins”–Jesus Christ himself, personally suffered the penalty of our sin. He did this to save us from suffering the penalty ourselves.

2) “The Just for the unjust” – Jesus never sinned, never deserved to suffer or die, yet he freely and willing laid down his life for you and me – who are guilty of sin.

3)  “That he might bring us to God”- In dying for our sin – Jesus made it possible for anyone who chooses to claim Jesus sacrifice on their behalf, to have complete forgiveness of ALL their sin! Total forgiveness removes sin that was separating us from God. Therefore in accepting Jesus and his forgiveness, Jesus brings us to God, by removing our Sin. In being brought to God by Jesus, we will NEVER to be separated from him again!

4) “Being put to death in the flesh”– As a human being Jesus was qualified to offer himself as a sacrifice on behalf of all humanity.   Only a human being could pay the price for humanities sin.

2) “But made alive by the Spirit” As God, Jesus in his own infinite Goodness, was able to offer his goodness to whoever would receive him in the whole world. As God, Jesus, in his own power, was able to rise again from the dead, demonstrating his authority over death, his ability to forgive sin, & give eternal life to all who trust in him.

Acts 10:43 - through His name (authority) whoever believes in Him will receive forgiveness of sins.

It is through believing that Jesus – God in Human skin, died for your sin, and was raised again from the dead, to give you forgiveness and life, that you might know God, and his love as he intended you to.

Q: Is there anything stopping you from placing your faith in Jesus Christ at this point in your life?

Acts 2:21 – whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The word saved means to be complete, and delivered. It is by believing in Jesus enough to call out to him with a genuine desire for his forgiveness and life, that God saves us from our sin, and the separation of spiritual death. At that very moment, God comes into the God shaped hole in our life, and fills it with his presence never to be separated from him again – not in this world or the thereafter!

If your hearts desire is to know God, and have his complete forgiveness & everlasting life – then will you talk to God and accept Jesus into your heart for the forgiveness of sin that you might know God, and the life he intended you to have?

Does the prayer below reflect the sincere desire of your Heart?

“Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your love, I know I am a sinner, that I have disobeyed you in my life. I am sorry. Please come into my life, and forgive me of my sin, I accept you alone as my Saviour. Thank you for your great sacrifice for me, and thank you for the gift of your full and eternal life. Amen.”

If this prayer reflects what you want to say to God – will you now pray it to him as your very own prayer?
